USPS overwhelmed by wave of pandemic vacation packages

An Albuquerque resident said he’s been watching mail closely lately, with Christmas just a week away. Some factors even started to come twice a day.

“Usually he comes in the morning between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., packs the boxes my wife has ordered, and then later in the evening they come around 2 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. to deliver regular mail,” said Joseph Madrid. “

“This is really the time for us to make sure everyone enjoys the holiday season,” added Spurgeon.

The USPS realizes that many families are shipping instead of seeing each other this year, which means USPS employees are putting in more hours than usual.

“A lot of employees work more over time, extra days,” Spurgeon said.

Spurgeon said a little praise of appreciation makes all the difference for employees.

“Nothing helps someone’s stress level like a thank you note,” he said. “Take the time to say thank you.”

Residents like Madrid thanked postal workers by going even further.

“Our postman is William. This is a very good factor. We like it. He is here every day and he also receives gifts every day, ”said Madrid. “It’s a very good factor. He’s a very good friend now. “

Madrid admit it’s also because they get a lot of mail.

The USPS has hired more than 1,000 new workers in New Mexico to meet the demand. The last opportunity to have something delivered before Christmas is to use Priority Express Mail before December 23.
